Welcome to Grimstad - Town of the Poets!
On overgrown Paths (Knut Hamsun) In the town of the poets you can follow Knut Hamsun’s ”overgrown paths” and learn about Henrik Ibsen’s years in Grimstad at the Ibsen Museum.
The Wild Chorus (Knut Hamsun) In Grimstad the granite is alive! Agder Theatre Fjæreheia, the theatre in the quarry, gives the audience an additional experience of drama, music and art alike.
Hunger (Knut Hamsun) Enjoy delicious meals in the delightful restaurants in the town centre and by the harbour. The bakeries serve hot chocolate and lovely cakes and the coffee bars invite you to browse in a paper, watch people passing by - or sit and be seen.
Vagabonds (Knut Hamsun) Biking through the summer: to cafés, concerts, cinema, shows! To the bakery, along the waterfront, to buy a newspaper at Narvesen’s at Odden, or for a warm, norwegian fish cake for lunch at Torskeholmen.
The Lady from the Sea (Henrik Ibsen) - will thrive in our guest harbour with it’s Blue Flag, the sign of quality, with numerous regular guests, and locals strolling along the harbour.
Terje Vigen (Henrik Ibsen) Bathing in the sunshine or fishing in the rain, rent a small boat and be the Captain for a while! The bigger boats are also for rent: M/S Bibben, M/S Østerøy and S/S Solrik – with their own captains.
In Wonderland (Knut Hamsun) At Gurebo Farm the children meet the pig and the goat and the cow and the sheep and the horse and the tractor and the hay and…farmer Gurebo!
If man is made for pleasure - (from Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen) he can find small shops and galleries lining up in the narrow streets of Grimstad, or take a walk along the waterfront to the comfort of the shopping centre.
Siesta (Knut Hamsun) can be taken wherever you prefer: we have hotels on the beach and at the town square, and summer houses ”in every bay”.
Welcome to Grimstad!
