Aust-Agder » Sørlandet in Southern Norway
| Sørlandet is the most southerly region in Norway. The area has many idyllic small coastal towns, an exciting local cuisine and an abundance of forests, mountains, rivers and lakes for adventurous activities. Old and young alike will find a wide variety of activities to enjoy, from country walks to cycle adventures and fishing trips. Your journey from the coast to the inland will take you by lakes, through villages, past upland farms up to high alpine terrain. There are marked trails and winter sports venues along the way. The entire region is ideal for bicycling trips with many exclusive cycle paths. The costal landscape consists of weather beaten cliff tops and sheltered bays and beaches. This is the perfect area to spend a summer holiday, enjoying some of the many beautiful beaches. The coastal waters offer excellent sea fishing and the rivers that flow out of the mountains are well stocked with trout and salmon. The more adventurous visitor can enjoy numerous water sports with a wide selection from kayaking to scuba diving. It is easy to rent a boat for the day, skipper included if needed, and explore the coastline. Kristiansand is the capital of Sørlandet (Population: 76 000) and was founded in 1641 by King Christian IV. In addition to being the largest city in our region, Kristiansand is the international hub for air, rail and ferry travel. For more information visit our website on www.visitsorlandet.com | |||
