Eastern Norway » Destination Femund Engerdal

Take your next holiday in Femund Engerdal.

You can choose your own atmospheric paths — or you can follow our marked trails. Not straight up and straight down, but undulating, pleasant and green, with beautiful and expansive views. The scenery has everything from tranquillity, atmosphere and the timelessness and magnificence of pristine mountains and forests — to drama, activity and excitement along the river.

Femunden, Femundselva, Isteren, Galtsjøen and 896 other fine fishing waters! Femund Engerdal is a paradise for anglers young and old. Our fishing guides would like to show you the best waters where you can catch trout, Arctic char, grayling, whitefish, perch, pike and burbot.

We don’t have Norway’s highest mountains, but in terms of accessibility and the views available it could hardly be better. Our highest mountain is Elgåhogna, 1460 m. Engerdal is a large area with 50 summits over 1000 m. There are marked paths to many of them, but you must find your own way to some.

Femunden is Norway’s third largest inland lake and certainly one of the most spectacular, at 662 metres asl. On Fæmund II you can experience more than half of the lake, from The northern end down to Elgå, every day, all summer. Many use the boat to travel to and from wilderness, hiking, fishing and canoe trips in Femundsmarka.

In our two national parks you can get to know the areas of distinctive scenic beauty that have made Femund region so famous across Northern Europe. Gutulia is one of them, known for among other things its areas of virgin forest. Drive to Gutulisjøen then walk for about half an hour, you’ll arrive at Gutulisetra. The other national park is Femundsmarka National Park, further north along the banks of Femund.

A canoe is the perfect way to get around on the lakes and rivers in Femundmarka. Femund Canoe Camp has everything you need, including suggestions for trips. You can off course make your own way, using own canoe. Enjoy your natural environment and please look after it.

Femund Engerdal is just made for active holidays in the outdoors. Enjoy guided rafting trips on Femundselva, cycling on mountain paths and trail and guided to various attractions.

Femund Engerdal’s white upland plateau extands for miles. You are more likely to seee animal tracks than meet other skiers. Take a look at the map of our network of ski trails and you can find out which tracks have been prepared at any one time. For many, mountain skiing is the greatest pleasure – to ski anywhere, preferably away from the tracks.

Welcome to a genuine wilderness.
