Located at a central point in Southern Norway, a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts is to be found. Here you will see the highest mountains of northern Europe, glaciers, lakes and of course rivers. And here you will find the best river in Europe for whitewater activities. Sjoa is well known amongst rafters and kayakers throughout the world. With its long continuous rapids, various difficulties, beautiful surroundings and pure water; Sjoa has challenges to offer all its visitors.

The source of Sjoa is the lake Gjende in Jotunheimen National Park. Lake Gjende as we know from “Peer Gynt” of the famous author Henrik Ibsen. Peer landed in this lake after his wild ride on the reindeer buck.

Along the Sjoa you can find three outdoor activity companies who all want you to experience nature in an adventurous way. You will find fantastic possibilities for rafting, canyoning, river boarding, glacier trips, summit trips, caving, summer skiing, trekking in the high mountains or over the Besseggen Ridge –known as the “Gjendin-Edge” from “Peer Gynt”.

GoRafting.no, Heidal Rafting and Sjoa Rafting are all situated along the Sjoa River in the lower part of the Heidal Valley, halfway between the National Parks of Jotunheimen and Rondane. Heidal is a beautiful valley, and also famous for Norways biggest collection of protected houses and farms.

GoRafting.no is a medium sized, personal activity company based in the old village school of Nedre Heidal. From there we are overlooking the Sjoa River, and a lot of our trips end just a 2-minute walk away. The river drains a very big area, so the water level is stable through the whole season. We arrange rafting trips on all levels, from beginners and smaller kids who want an easy and very safe trip, up to extreme trips for those with previous rafting experience.

Situated between the Rondane and Jotunheimen National Parks, and with Dovrefjell National park just an hour away, we can also offer a wide range of other outdoor activities. Canyoning, riverboarding, rock climbing, bridge swinging, glacier walks, musk ox safaries, horse riding and mountain biking are also popular activities to combine with rafting when visiting us. We are probably the most conservative company in the area when it comes to safety and risk management, and our top international guides reassure that all focus is on making an unforgettable experience for each of our guests.

HEIDAL RAFTING
We offer rafting at all levels from easy family trips on the Otta River to rafting in the Åmodt Falls, some of the most extreme rafting you can experience in Norway. Heidal Rafting also offers riverboarding, canyoning, glacier trips and mosk-ox safari. Heidal Rafting strives for quality in all it`s activities.

The Sjoa is one of the best rivers in Northern Europe for whitewater rafting and river sports. It runs from Lake Gjende in the Jotunheimen Mountains, through Heidal and down to the Gudbrandsdalslågen River. In summer, the river has a steady flow of water from the glaciers.

Heidal Rafting was established in 1992 and is one of Norway`s largest rafting companies. We are based at Sjoa Gjestehus & Youth Hostel, which is easily accessible and a perfect starting point for trips on the Sjoa.

SJOA RAFTING AS
Rafting on the Sjoa, Europe's best rafting river, short excursions, daytrips and two-day trips, canyoning, glacier walking, grotto tours, etc. There are different types of accommodations available in the camp, including bungalows, dormitories and Saami tents. Sjoa Rafting runs a wilderness camp on an island in the Sjoa River. Owing to its unique location, Sjoa Rafting AS is an all-round adventure enterprise featuring rafting as its main activity. The camp is located in an idyllic, tranquil site on the banks of the Sjoa River. Transport to/from the trips is thus limited to an absolute minimum. The Sjoa is permanently protected, and considered to be Europe's best rafting river. The camp is also a good point of departure for other activities. Located between Jotunheimen and Rondane National Parks, the camp is close to both of them.
