In the beautiful countryside of Hadeland you will find Hadeland Folkemuseum with its Open-Air Museum. In the museums area you can wander among a fascinating collection of nearly 40 historic buildings, dating from the 17th to the 19th century. The buildings have been carefully dismantled from its origin place and rebuild to their original form at the museum. Wander through these exhibits at your leisure - farmhouses, carpenters workshop, barns, tenant farmhouse and more. The interiors have been furnished and recreated the way the buildings were used by their owners centuries ago. The museums area is hilly, but gives also a great sight, and a perfect spot for the view is “Halvdanshaugen”. Myth says that this was the grave of the Viking king Halvdan Svarte. After leaving the barrow, a great place to take a break is by the picturesque little pond near the herb garden. Nearby lies Tingelstad Old Church dating back to 1220 with an original interior from 16th Century. The church is a typical Romanesque parish church and has a unique position among the mediaeval churches in Hadeland, and is also an important monument on a national scale. Exhibitions, cafè/ kiosk and museum shop with local artware. The museum offers guided tours in Tingelstad old church in the period: May-September. Please book in advance.
