Meet dinosaurs at the Geological museum! STAN is a Tyrannosaurus rex and lived in what is now known as North America. T-rex is the most famous dinosaur of all time, and also one of the largest meat eating, land living reptiles ever. Stan was found in South Dakota in a 65 million year old delta. We are not sure what killed Stan, maybe a fight, maybe sickness, or even old age. But the skeleton was preserved for 65 million years in sandstone until Stan Sacrison found him close to the city Buffalo in 1987. In 1992 the skeleton was excavated and more than 70% of the bones were present. It was a fantastic find, and is still rated as one of the best T-rex skeletons in the world. Our specimen is a museum cast with the missing bones reconstructed. The original fossils are housed in Black Hills Institute, South Dakota.
