Landmarks/attractions:

Gammelvegen ("The Old Road") in Øksfjordbotn.
Considered an extremely important cultural monument. The site has been planned and realized as a whole: an impressive example of road engineering as an art, where landscape and road merge so that each enriches the other. The road, built in 1905-1910, is a memorial to the great work of the road builders in bygone times.

Øksfjordjøkulen.
Glacier, 1204 metres above sea level, which is Finnmark's highest point. Most easily accessible from Nuvsvåg, but visible from most places in the municipality. Active fishing fleet and its own fish depot.

The island which has given its name to the municipality. Oldtime trading post which was once the centre of the township. White sandy beaches, protected wildlife reserve with steep cliffs and bird colonies, and slate quarry.
