The Sami Artist Center/Sami Daiddaguovddas (SDG), established in 1986, is the key venue for contemporary Sami art as well as a profiled arena of contemporary artistic expression.
The central attraction of SDG is the year-round program of temporary exhibitions at our own venue – SDG Gallery - in Karasjok. Comprising up to 12 exhibitions annually, the exhibition program covers a full range of work of contemporary Sami and international artists – from the traditions of duodji and craft practices to the diversity of present-day media. The exhibitions are accompanied by educational activities such as talks, tours, seminars, and workshops.
Along with the exhibitions, SDG also runs SDG Butik, our sales gallery and art shop offering updated selections of works of art, craft, duodji and design by Sami artists. In addition, SDG Butik holds a well-resourced book-shop section.
Under the rubric of SDG c/o, we carry out a variety of external projects – national and international, independent or collaborative - such as travelling exhibitions, festival participations or other art world events.
Moreover, SDG is a resource and information center regarding all aspects of modern and contemporary Sami art, promoting also its representation in public spaces, museums, public collections or in the worlds of art and culture in general.
