Sorrisniva is situated beside the Alta river, approximately 20 km from the city centre of Alta. We offer adventure and nature experiences throughout the entire year. In 2009 Sorrisniva was awarded as the best Norwegian tourism business of the year. You can also enjoy a food experience made by the Chef of 2009 in our restaurant.
Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel
Norway’s largest and worlds northernmost icehotel will be opening again in the middle of January 2011. The hotel measures approx 2000 square metres, and the entire exterior and interior is made of snow and ice; the rooms, the beds, even the glasses in the icebar.
Apart from its 30 bedrooms, the Igloo Hotel houses suites, a bar and several lounges. The hotel is decorated with ice sculptures – exquisite works of art – which in combination with the pure white snow create a fairy-tale atmosphere. The hotel is rebuilt every year with changing themes to ensure a unique experience.
Next to the igloo hotel, there is a service centre which holds a restaurant, a new and modern kitchen, wardrobes/toilets, shower/sauna, 2 outdoor hot tubs, meeting facilities, reception and a souvenir shop. Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel is open Monday to Friday 12.00-14.00 and 18.00-20.00, Saturday and Sunday 12.00-18.00 (groups of more than 10 persons may book guided tours). The igloo hotel is usually open until April 1st.
Snowmobile safari on the Finnmarksvidda mountain plateau
Sorrisniva has twenty years of experience in taking guests into the mountains, and our professional guides look after your safety and comfort all the way. The weather on the Finnmarksvidda mountain plateau varies from a few degrees above zero Centigrade to extremely low temperatures.
We cannot promise you windless days and clear skies, but whatever the weather, the scenery up on the plateau is magnificently impressive and beautiful; and so we can and do promise you an experience you will remember for life.
We offer departures twice a day, at 10.00 and at 17.00, ending with a visit in the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel. We also offer tailormade programs for groups, spending the night at Igloo Hotel, in a lavvo or hotel.
Restaurant Laksestua
Norwegian chef of the year in 2009, Johhny Trasti, follows the food calendar concept, whereby the materials are used when naturally available. The river, the fjord and the plateau, offer excellent raw materials for our chef to magic into delicious dishes. We serve lunch or dinner to groups that order in advance, and to guests at the Igloo Hotel. The restaurant has a unique and warm atmosphere, and we struggle to give our guests a food experience to remember.
Experience the Alta Canyon by riverboat
Sorrisniva is situated right on the banks of Norway’s best, world-famous salmonriver. In the period late May to late August (depending on the depth of water in the river), we offer excursions on the river in traditional river-boats. The longest trip takes you to North-Europe’s biggest Canyon, and our experienced skippers guarantee you a safe and comfortable ride through the rapids and cataracts.
