A little about Alvdal
Alvdal is in the Nord-Østerdalen region of Hedmark county, where the valleys march down to fertile alluvial plains, wreathed by Tron, Østkjølen and Alvdal Vestfjell Development is concentrated along the Glåma and Folla rivers, which meet in the centre of the village. Everybody is skiing in Alvdal, and the village has fostered many a famous name over the years. One of the oldest wooden skis in Norway was found here, and skis are naturally enough the motif in the municipal coat of arms.
Jutulhogget
Jutulhogget was formed during the last Ice Age, and is northern Europe's biggest canyon. There is a road from Rv. 3 to a lookout point. Jutulhogget is a protected nature reserve; it is 2.5 km long, 150 to 500 meters wide, and 240 meters at its deepest.
Tronfjellet
Tron is a landmark for those travelling through the valley, 1666 metres above sea level, with a road all the way to the top. From here the view is exceptional. The flora of Tron is known for it´s diversity: the glacier buttercup, spring pasque flower, mountain avens and diapensia are among the species we find here.

Alvdal Vestfjell
Large recreation area with varied and walker-friendly terrain, summer and winter. Store Sølnkletten, 1827 metres high, is the towering focal point. Courtesy of the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT), there are signed paths through pleasant pastureland towards Rondane. Ideal starting points for shorter or longer walks are easily accessible by car. The roads have self-service toll gates.

Husantunet (exit from Rv. 3, about 1.3 km) is one of the country's best preserved old farmyards, with 18th and 19th century buildings. The 17 turf-roofed houses of varying function are located on a terrace above the Glåma, peacefully overlooking the village.
The Aukrust Centre museum
Kjell Aukrust grew up on Alvdal's "Karl Johan", Steigjelen. Humorous narrative art in text and line, lyric gems, exciting paintings, fantastical inventions, an abundant cast of characters, multimedia and film... you will find all this in the Aukrust Centre, which was opened by H.M. King Harald in 1996.
