Hedmarksmuseet
Visit a museum which gives you glimpses of history, from the era of the Vikings, through the Middle Ages up to present time.
The museum boasts one of Norway’s largest medieval museums. Our glass cathedral is built over the ruins of the great medieval cathedral of the city of Hamar. Hear the dramatic story of how it was destroyed, and experience the exceptional acoustics of the glass cathedral by listening to live performances of early music.
Pioneering architecture unites the past and the present. Our herbal garden is lush and colourful, and we bid you welcome to a feast of the senses amongst our 400 plants and flowers. The beautiful lake of Mjøsa is surrounding the museum.
Take a stroll through our lovely outdoor museum, where you can see our 60 houses. Every year in June you are welcome to visit our Medieval festival, where we bring the Middle Ages back to life once more. Experience a medieval marked with craftsmen and merchants, jousting tournaments and sword fights.
