From a farm to a Hotel
Bjørnefjorden Gjestetun lies on a hill overlooking the fjord and the mountains beyond, with the “Folgefonna” glacier on the horizon. The fullservice hotel still contains the cozy atmosphere of the farmhouses of old, even though the inside has all modern amenities for business as well as pleasure. Bjørnefjorden Gjestetun is located 29 kilometers south of Bergen, a half hour drive from both Bergen and the airport.

Bjørnefjorden Gjestetun sleeps 90 in 40 charming rooms, located in different buildings placed within the intimacy of the original farm. You can for instance stay in the old barn, where each room has its own name such as Smalahuset - "The Sheep Shed" or Stallen - "The Stables". The painted panelling is in the colours used at the turn of the century. Textiles and interior fittings and furnishings have been chosen for atmosphere and warmth.

All rooms are of a high standard with all necessary facilities. The size varies from single rooms to four-bed apartments. Most of the apartments have large terraces overlooking the Bjørnefjord.

A spacious garden on the Fjord side contains traditional herbs and fruit-trees, as well as a genuine Viking mound dating back to around 800 AD.

The hotel has 5 meeting rooms suitable for meetings from 8 to 80 guests, all with the intimate and creative atmosphere of the old farm, but also with all modern amenities for business needs, wifi, and professional staff offering service with a positive local attitude.

Our restaurant, headed by our award-winning chefs, serves traditional local produce wrapped in a delicious contemporary style. Our regular clients tell us the freshness of our courses taste of individual preparation, even when it is served for a group. The food from the fjord and the sea is as important to us as it was to our ancestors, and we keep traditions in mind while we prepare it in a modern style.

Hikingtrails - Bjørnefjorden has a wide offering of marked hikingtrails, suitable from a leisurely walk to a full-day for seasoned hikers.

Lysekloster Monastery was founded in 1146 by Bishop Sigurd of Bergen, and was a daughter-house of Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire, England.
Walking through the ruins gives you an impression of the greatness of former times.

Canoe paddling, horse-back riding or year-round skiing on the glacier is also located in the near vicinity.
