Mid-Norway » Frøset Østre

Arnt and Kirsten FrøsetOn the shores of the Trondheimfjord, at Byneset, is Frøset Østre, where former county mayor Arnt Frøseth and his wife Kirsten welcome you to an evening in historic surroundings.

The Storehouse
At Frøset Østre there is a wooden structure dating from 1855 with artefacts bespeaking a 500-year-old tradition. Here we tell the story of the farm, of those who have lived at Frøset, their everyday life and their festive occasions and their small romantic tales, while the chef serves traditional peasant food with a continental twist and wine decanted tall glasses at long candle-lit tables.

The Stone Age site
The Stone Age settlement at Frøset Østre includes the oldest known traces of human habitation in Trondheim municipality. Here a "Stone Age tent" and rural settlement have been constructed. The "Stone Age tent" is a replica in which you can imagine that period, as the present is shut out and you are told of our distant ancestors, local prehistory and archaeological history. We will also have made copies of important flint finds on the farm and reconstructions of tools used 10,000 years ago. Experience the scents and flavours of ancestral times, imagine the pagan rituals and sun dances.

The Boathouse
Salmon fishing with wedge seines at Frøset started around 1870. In 1906, an oil store was built on the beach for the operation of the lighthouse at Frøset Point. Shacks were set up around 1920 for anglers leasing some of the salmon fishing rights at Frøset Østre. The boathouse dating from 1860 was restored in 2005. Here you will be served good food and drink in surroundings from another era, with the waves as beautiful background music.

The Lavvo
A lavvo, a Sami-style tent, has been constructed with room for 100 people, serving, among other things, a whole barbecued deer under the expert direction of the chef. Folk song evenings are held here, and legends are re-told in the twilight borderland between fantasy and reality. The lavvo and barbecue area overlook the fjord, where Stone Age people once assembled at sunset. The area was at the heart of the fertile district known as "Trønders' country" and provides a great setting for tales of Trøndelag.

The Gapahauk
The world's largest lean-to shelter at Frøset Østre. In the spring of 2008 we opened 'the world's largest lean-to shelter" for meals and other forms of entertainment: our new flagship when it comes to kick-offs and large parties. It is built in a horseshoe shape, surrounding a large fireplace, with a spectacular view of the Trondheimfjord. There is room for 150 people and everything needed for an evening of entertainment, music and dance in the sunset.

Activities in connection with parties can be arranged on request in “lean-to shelter” or tent.
