Trondheim - Norway's historical capital
Trondheim is one of the oldest cities in Scandinavia and has more than 1,000 year's experience of welcoming guests from home and abroad. From the time of its foundation by the Viking king Olav Trygvasson in 997, the city has been a hub activity and a popular venue for events.
Since the Middle Ages, Norway's kings have been crowned or blessed in Nidaros Cathedral, and the National Crown Jewels are on wiev at the Archbishop’s Palace. Trondheim is Norway's third largest city, and its historical heritage is apparent wherever you go. The city is also a centre for marine, technical and medical research.
Trondheim is one of Norway's largest university cities and has one of Europe's largest independent research environments. Trondheim may be described as a large town or a small city, where old and new meet.
Visit the tourist office in the market place (Torget) for further information on what to see and do in the city or visit Trondheim on the Internet.
