Nord-Trøndelag » The Namdal Coast
A coastal adventure – with the wild, beautiful Folla – in the realm of a thousand islands!
This is truly a world of contrasts. The wild ocean with a multitude of islands, surrounded by chalk-white sandy beaches and bathed in that very special light that draws so many visitors here. There is little to separate sea and sky out here in this maritime wonderland, only narrow and improbably verdant strips of granite. The exception is the Saga isle of Leka, breaking out from the sea with its characteristic red-gold serpentine mountains – an unusual geological phenomenon also found in Cyprus and New Zealand. The skerries offer a wide range of activities: kayaking through the host of islets right up against the open sea, sailing and sea rafting. Fishing is also excellent: the region is known for its rich stocks of cod. All these natural beauties are seasoned with a rich and varied history – and thrilling attractions to match. Visit northern Europe's first known cave paintings on the island of Leka, historic and hospitable fishing villages such as Sør-Gjæslingan and Nordøyan – not to mention the Norveg cultural centre in the coastal town of Rørvik, the millennium site for Nord-Trøndelag and the most spectacular building on the Norwegian coast! Visitors who crave the bright lights of a more urban environment will find total satisfaction in Rørvik, Namsos or Kolvereid – "the smallest city in Norway"! What more could you ask? | ||||||||
