Hammerstad is 9 km from Svolvaer, the de facto capital of Lofoten. Situated on Austnesfjorden, deemed one of Europe's richest fishing fjords. This is where the Lofoten winter fisheries takes place from February to April. The World Championship in cod fishing is held here each year.
