Ofoten region:

  • Ballangen Museum, Ballangen: Extensive mining activities from 1600’s until today. Very deep ores of pyrite, copper and iron. The first mining in Northern Norway.
  • Museum Nord, Narvik: Narvik was the export harbor of the nearby mining industry in Sweden. The operations of the spectacular Ofot railway. Life of the “rallar” (railway workers). Part of “European Route of Industrial Heritage”.
  • Tysfjord Museum, Kjøpsvik: From fisherman-farming to industrialization. Emphasis on sami culture and multi-cultural life.
    Korsnes: Former trading post, nearby ferry Bognes.

Vesterålen region:

  • Andøy Museum, Andenes: Polar life, emphasizing the life of Hilmar Nøis from Vesterålen. The unique geology of the island.
  • Bø Museum, Vinje: Get close to Norwegian cultural history through North-Norway’s great fairytale writer Regine Nordmann.
  • Norwegian Fishing Industry Museum, Melbu: Large industrial site for marine oil production early 20th century. “From Seabed to the table” – modern and old days fishing industry.
  • Nyksund: History and growth of this quaint fishing village.
  • Vesterålen Museum, Melbu: Industrial pioneer Chr. Fredriksen. Beautiful mansion and park. Art nouveau. Murals of the famous Norwegian painter Gunnar Berg.
  • Sortland Museum, Sortland: Summer: exhibitions at the old wharf Jennestad Trading post. Original shop from 1920 – 1982. All year: various exhibitions in Sortland area.
  • Øksnes Museum, Alsvåg: Large 18th century Nordland residence. Situated on a medieval farm mound (archeological site). The importance of fishing; stone age - modern times.

Lofoten Region:

  • Lofoten War Museum, Svolvær: Norway’s largest exhibition of uniforms and smaller objects from 2nd World War. Rare pieces and photographs.
  • Lofoten Museum, Storvågan: Authentic residence of the owner of the fishing village. Environment from 1800’s. Lofoten fisheries, collection of Nordland type boats.
  • Lofotr Viking Museum, Borg: The largest Viking house found in Europe. Encounter the Vikings every day life. Row the Viking ship. On-site archaeological open air museum.
  • Norwegian Fishing Village Museum, Å: Life in a traditional fishing village. Cod-liver oil factory. Stone oven bakery from 1844. Smithy with ironware items. Boat house.
  • Norwegian Telecom Museum, Sørvågen: One of Norway’s first telecom services.
  • Vestvågøy Museum, Fygle: Complete classroom interior in old school building (1898). The oldest “rorbu” (fisherman’s cabin) in Lofoten (1834).
  • Skaftnes: How fishermen-farmer’s families lived in the late 1800s.
