Northern Norway » Midt-Troms Museum
Midt-Troms Museum thrives in a large region – 11000 km2 – including the island of Senja with the municipalities of Tranøy, Torsken, Berg and Lenvik, the coastal municipalities of Dyrøy, and Sørreisa, and the inland municipalities of Bardu, Målselv and Balsfjord. This remarkable region has international strategic-political significance, important natural resources in the sea and on the land, and a dynamic, optimistic population.
The Fjordmuseum and Wetland Center in Storsteinnes provides fascinating information on the natural history in the region, predators and birdlife in particular. The Troms Military Museum in Setermoen shows the staunch history of military activities in Northern Norway, from the early 1900s up to the present, with a special focus on the second World War. Learn about the history of the city of Finnsnes and childhood in Northern Norway at Finnsnes City & Children´s Museum. Tourist information is offered at museum facilities in Skaland, Finnsnes, and Andselv. Each summer Midt-Troms Museum opens 12 impressive, intriguing attractions, highlighting the coastal fisherman-farmer lifestyle of the last century, the hardworking farmers of the valleys and mountains, the Saami history of central Troms, and the historic fishing and timber industries of this vibrant region.
