The municipality of Lyngen is located at the mountainous region situated on the 1500 km2 Lyngen peninsula in the northern part of Troms and has around 3200 inhabitants. The peninsula is located between two big fjords: Lyngenfjord and Ullsfjord. The region has almost 50 peaks higher than 1300 meters above sea level and is one of northern Norway’s most pronounced highland areas with sharp peaks and glaciers. The mountain massif is cut through by narrow valleys. There are 5 landscape protected areas in the municipality. Lyngsalpan landscape protected area is the biggest with its 961, 2 km2 The landscape in the municipality provides possibilities for both hiking in the mountains and fishing in the sea.
In spite of the location so far north, Lyngen enjoy a moderate insular climate. Summer weather ranges from five degrees Celsius and rain to 28 degrees and fantastic swimming conditions for the undaunted. Winter is not especially cold.
The Midnight Sun is visible from around May 18th to around July 24th. Between November 21 and January 21, the sun disappears under the horizon and we experience the Polar Nights. There is not completely dark during the middle of the day and the light and colour in the sky is amazing when the weather is favourable.
