WELCOME TO NUSFJORD
- Norway’s oldest and best preserved fishing village
In Nusfjord you will experience the thrill of local history and culture by staying in a fisherman’s cabin, fishing in the great Vestfjorden, going on a sea safari, and other activities such as kayaking, diving and hiking in the majestic mountains surrounding the village. Over a period of several years we have restored Nusfjord in such a way that the buildings show the village’s history while at the same time many of them remain in day to day use.
Our cabins are mainly kept in its original style. Although they now are provided with bathrooms and kitchens, you will still experience the life of the fishermen – almost like it was a century ago.
Oriana Tavern and the a la carte restaurant Karoline are both named after ships belonging to Nusfjord, and provides you with delicious meals from the nearby sea.
The General Store from 1907, with shelves, cupboards, benches, and drawers is intact. The general store sells foodstuffs, fishing equipment, and souvenirs. Traditionally, the general store is a gathering place for Nusfjord’s inhabitants, and it is here also that the post is delivered and collected.
Historical buildings, such as the Smithy, the Saw mill, the Red barn, the North boat shed and the Cod liver oil factory are restored and gives you an unique presentation of the villages history.
Nusfjord has a dense concentration of buildings, most of which date from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. This is what gives Nusfjord its unique character.
Nusfjord was originally crown land, but between 1823 and 1843 it was bought up by the Dahl family who ran the village up until 1989. Today the property is comprised of 17500 hectares of land, 5 fishing lakes, and around 50 buildings, including the heritage listed
fishermen’s cabins.
We welcome you to a different and unique holiday in Norways oldest and best preserved fishing village
