From Viking seat to hallowed ground. This museum is located by the world's northernmost medieval church.
A little more than two miles from the centre of Harstad, in beautiful landscape of the Trondenes peninsula, lies Trondenes Historical Centre. Our permanent exhibit, through a medley of film, light, smell and sound presents the powerful story of the Viking and Middle Ages at Trondenes, in addition to more general informastion on the history of the Harstad region from Younger Stone Age to the present day. Browse through our museum shop, enjoy coffee and cake in our café or out on the terrace, all with the incredible panorama of Vågsfjord as your backdrop.
Sør-Troms Museum extends a warm welcone to everyone visiting Trondenes Historical Centre, Trastad Samlinger, and our wide-ranging Regional Museum, all offering rich and varied historical and cultural experiences. Sør-Troms Museum includes twelve attractions within the municipalities of Salangen, Lavangen, Skånland, Ibestad, Bjarkøy, Kvæfjord and Harstad, all of which are open to the public during the summer months. Our many attractions can also be combined for a pleasant day tour. Perhaps you might be tempted to explore Hinnøya or walk in the footsteps of the Vikings?
