• Fishing
  Some of the country’s richest fishing grounds are located in Vesterålen. Many visitors want to come here precisely for the good fishing they find here. Fishing can be done all year, both in sea and ocean. The winter is special due to ‘skreifishing’, and the grate posibilities for ice-fishing. Many of the tourist facilities have boats for hire, and guided fishing trips.
  
  
• Whale- and nature safari
  Because of the warm and nutrient-rich ocean currents from the Gulf Stream, Vesterålen is host to teeming bird life and practically unparalleled flora. Experience all kind of nature safaries. • Nature hiking
  There are marked hiking trails throughout the entire Vesterålen area, and they may be used during both summer and winter. The routes are easily accessible and are foundt almost anywhere one wants to explore. There is also a touring map with several suggested trip itineraries. The mountain Møysalen; was in 2009 selected by outdoor magazine ‘UTE’ as ‘Norway’s most beautiful natural attraction’

• Cycling
  Cycling around Vesterålen opens for magic experiences for the visitor who has sufficient time to take one day at a time. The routes are easy to cycle, with very little hilly terrain and many stretches that are practically free of motorised traffic. Vesterålen has made their own cycling guide. • Paddling
  Vesterålen is a paddler’s paradise for both experts and the less experienced. You can experience beautiful fjords, idyllic skerry landscape and fascinating sea landscapes. You can watch bird and animal life at close range, with pristine and wild nature through the prism of ever-changing wind and weather conditions.
  
  
• Aurora Borealis
  Polar light in the Northern Hemisphere is called aurora borealis. North Norway is the ideal location for observing the northern lights, since the so-called aurora oval runs along the coast of Nordland, Troms and Finnmark counties. In the centre of this oval are the Vesterålen islands.
