Oppland » Kittilbu Utmarksmuseum
At Kittilbu Museum visitors can learn about how the natural resources of this mountain area have been used through the centuries: to hunting and gathering by Stone-Age communities, iron production in the Middle-Ages, and by today’s local communities to mountain farming and hunting. Our varied summer program includes guided tours in the mountains, iron production as in the Middle-Ages, Stone-Age activities and traditional mountain farm lunches with locally produced food. We arrange concerts and talks, and at the museum there are exhibition, and local history books and other souvenirs for sale. The museum has a tourist information about the nearby National Park. The cultural history trail which starts beside the museum includes reconstructed animal pitfall traps and an iron production site. Accommodation, fishing permits and the hire of canoes can also be arranged through the museum. Groups can book guiding, tours, lunches and special Stone-Age and iron production activity days. How to find us: Follow route 204 between Vestre Gausdal and Valdres. See museums`website.
