Experience Rondane Dovrefjell!

At the bottom of the valley runs the river – sparkling, glistening, throwing itself down waterfalls and rapids, but sometimes just winding its way slowly and smoothly on its journey from the mountains to the lowlands. Along the river run the main road and railway, connecting the region with its neighbours and with the rest of the country to the south, north and west. Through vibrant towns and villages with their hustle and bustle – little hubs halfway between Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim.

Perched on the valley slopes lie the farms, large and small. Man has carved out a living here for several centuries, exploiting every little fertile patch to provide food and clothing. He has created a living cultural landscape that continues to provide a living and quality of life for the people of the village.

Beyond lie the mountains. Peaks and ridges tower above the mountain farms and highlands where livestock, wild reindeer and musk oxen graze, framing the valley and enticing visitors to come and explore. Rondane, Dovrefjell and Lesjafjell all form part of the fabric of Norway's roof. No wonder that both local folklore and Henrik Ibsen saw this landscape as being the home of the trolls.
