Oslo » Oslo Cathedral
Oslo Cathedral is located in the centre of the capital. Its abundant history, cultural heritage and traditions are embedded in the walls of the Cathedral and this pulsates with the underground trains that rumble sedately under the floor of the church. The Cathedral offers tours around the entire building.
The Cathedral is visited daily by the inhabitants of the city, travellers, homeless people and those who do not possess identification papers. A diverse range of people walk into the Cathedral: some come to attend services; others just come to sit in silence. The inside of a church is a special area in which one is equal in the eyes of God and where sacredness can be experienced. The feeling of sacredness may arise when we meet people who challenge us or when we see the fantastic Baroque style interiors and paintings on the ceiling, or during services and concerts. The Oslo Cathedral has a variety of programs that vary from being the official world championship church in February, during the Nordic World Ski Championship 2011, to becoming the main arena for the International Church Music Festival in March.
The church promotes Jesus Christ as the light of the world, and by lighting a candle on one of the two globe-shaped candle holders inside the Cathedral, you can help to keep the light strong and ignite hope in the darkness.
