Oslo » The Norwegian Maritime Museum
The Norwegian Maritime Museum, located beautifully on the Oslo Fjord, offers visitors the experience of old sailing ships and steam vessels through our exhibitions of ship interiors, ship models and maritime objects. The museum displays unique material from underwater excavations as well as maritime memorabilia and curiosities. The museum's collection of maritime art includes both traditional ship portraits as well as works by some of Norway's greatest painters.
The exhibition Skipet ("The Ship") illustrates how human innovation has made it possible to utilize the ocean as a resource. Interactive maps, films and artefacts trace the crossing of oceans from the very first rafts and canoes to present-day shipping. On display is also Norway's oldest boat - the 2200 year old Bronze Age log boat. The exhibtion features a pool where everyone can try navigating remote controlled boats!
