The permanent exhibition at the Museum of Archaeology gives an introduction to Rogaland’s prehistory with the help of antiquities and other archaeological finds from the Stone, Bronze and Viking Ages and up to the end of the Middle Ages. The Museum arranges several theme exhibitions each year.
There is plenty to interest children at the Museum. The Museum has been specially adapted to allow children to find out more about prehistory through games. There are treasure hunts among the antiquities and many other activities for children of different ages. They can try on clothing and use tools from prehistoric times, go fishing in a log boat, look through a microscope, and much more. The Museum has a special summer programme for children of all ages.
Visitors can learn how people have made a living in Rogaland since the first migrants came ashore the western coasts 11,500 years ago. For more than 100 centuries, people have left their mark on the environment, and because remains of their lives have been found, we can piece together a picture of what life was like so very many years ago.
Our friendly café serves delicious cakes and light lunches every day from 11.00 am onwards. These are based on organic products.
The Museum Shop makes and sells copies of selected prehistoric objects from Rogaland. It also sells toys, souvenirs and a broad range of books and journals.
