The Jostedalen valley stretches from the Sognefjord to the mountains on the Oppland county border, in all its length on the eastern side of the Jostedal Glacier. The many arms of the glacier reach all the way down to the bottom of the valley itself. You can get to Jostedalen from two directions. Either the Sognefjell Mountain Road, Rv55, from Lom, or through Sogndal, which is the center of the Sogn region. The Sognefjellet Road is really a thrill, as you drive very close to the peaks of the western Jotunheimen. Jostedalen wishes you welcome! You will have great experiences and good memories.
Nigardsbreen Since 1987, the Jostedalen Glacier Guides has organized adventure trips and courses, from easy family tours across the blue ice of the glacier Nigardsbreen, to challenging climbs. Throughout the summer, we offer several different hikes daily. We also have basic and advanced glacierand climbing courses. If you would like your own guide or are interested in a custom-made tour across a glacier or in the mountains, please contact us. Jostedalen Breførarlag consists of approved glacier/mountain guides and instructors with extensive local expertise and long and all-round experience. We are members of NF, NORTIND and IFMGA/IVBV (the International Mountain Guiding Association).
Breheimsenteret The Jostedalsbreen information centre and museum at the foot of Nigardsbreen glacier in the Jostedal valley. Natural history, cultural history and film from mountains, glaciers and fjords. A perfect visit in combination with a glacier crossing. Tourist information, tax-free souvenir shop and cafeteria with a variety of warm and cold dishes. Info and booking for glacierhikes, kayaking, rafting, and horseback riding. The center is open from the 1st of May until the 1st of October.
Glacier road From Breheimsenteret to the Nigard Glacier runs the 3 km long Glacier Road, open from May 1 until the first winter snowfall. The road takes you through the interesting moraine landscape left by the glacier in the 18th century, when the ice even covered where the road starts today. From the end of the road you can come even closer to the glacier, by boat. The Jostedalsrypa travels the lake every day from 10-18, between June 10th and August 30th.
