Only 3 kms from the E18 towards Vegårshei, you will find Næs Iron Works Museum. It is situated in beautiful surroundings by the river Storelva in Tvedestrand Kommune.
Næs is the best preserved of the old iron works in Norway, with a hammer forge, crucible steel works, blast furnaces, exhibitions etc. The old iron works dates back to 1665. Accompanied by a guide, you can see how the skilled workers transformed iron-ore into various products of iron and steel, some of the most important materials in the construction of a modern society. Introduction video in English/German. You might also take a stroll through a small landscape park (romantic style, 1810-25). One of the best golf courses in Norway is also situated in the same area.
In the small café, you can buy souvenirs, books, special food and gifts.
