Welcome to Svalbard!

Under the magnificent polar sky, halfway between the North Pole and mainland Norway, lies the island group of Svalbard. Longyearbyen, with its 2070 inhabitants, is the seat of local government and Norway’s main administrative centre on the island Spitsbergen. The small colourful community has developed from being a typical mining community into a community with a number of businesses and industries and a wide range of cultural activities and opportunities. The nature is powerful and unique, with a rich animal life adjusted the arctic conditions. The Arctic light is fascinating and unforgettable, whether it is midnight sun from 19 April to 23 August, or polar night in the period 26 October to 16 February.
