Svalbard Villmarksenter is a certified ecotourism business; everything we do aims at preserving Svalbard’s wilderness. We cooperate with the WWF to preserve the Arctic as a wilderness for coming generations and in 2002 we were the proud winners of the WWF’s international environmental award, “The Arctic Award for Linking Tourism and Conservation”. This is for circumpolar achievement and is awarded once a year
Our main base is about 10 km from Longyearbyen, and has our two historic buildings, Gammen and Barents'z house, with a total capasity of 100 people. We give lectures, hold slide shows and serve food. It’s a great place for conferences. We also have 80 sled dogs that are ready to run throughout the winter, both for day trips or multiday trips in beautiful, exotic surroundings. In the summer we offer dog sledding on wheeled sleds and walks over mountains and glaciers. We tailor-make programmes for groups of any size.
