Vest-Agder » Agder Naturmuseum & Botaniske Hage

The Agder Museum of Natural History and Botanical Gardens was founded in1828, and parts of the collection are equally old. In 1990, the museum was reopened in new facilities, and the permanent parts of the exhibition were installed. The exhibitions will introduce you to the geology, flora and fauna of the southern region of Norway, from the ice age to the present, from the coastline to the mountains. Moreover, you can see colourful minerals and one of the largest collections of cacti in Norway. The museum also presents complementary exhibitions over various themes on one or several occasions every year.

The Botanical Gardens are situated in the park area surrounding the Agder Museum of Natural History, and shows a range of various themes: historical roses and modern roses, The Milleniun Garden with plants that have been cultivated in Norway over the last millenium, perennials, small garden of insect attractants, mountain plants, Dahlia’s, arboretum and a footpath that takes you through the neighbouring woods. On the premises you also find two playgrounds, one of which contains musical instruments. There is also a café and souvenir shop at the museum.
