WELCOME TO HORTEN

Our picturesque port municipality welcomes you with open arms, whether you arrive from land or sea. Our two towns, Horten and Åsgårdstrand, contain all the shops, facilities and service you need. Close to Horten, at Sollistrand, you will find Horten Automobile Museum that shows the colorful history of motor vehicles.

We invite you to visit Borrehaugene, which was Norway’s first National Park, and have the largest Viking graveyard of Scandinavia with significant discoveries from ancient times. Midgard Historical Center at Borre has all available information on the discoveries.

Åsgårdstrand is by many considered the artistic town of Norway, even referred to as the Skagen of Norway. You can visit Edvard Munchs summerhouse, where everything is preserved just as it was when Munch was alive.

Karljohansvern – Old Horten invites you to both recreation and cultural experiences with its historical places, beaches, nature, museums, art galleries and workshops. The Navy Museum (said to be one of the oldest in the world), Preus museum (Norway’s national museum for photography) and Local Historical Center are all located on Karljohansvern.

We are proud of our municipality and are happy to share it with you!

WELCOME TO TØNSBERG - THE OLDEST TOWN IN NORWAY!

Tønsberg is a very popular summer destination with a charming atmosphere. Tønsberg has regional cooperation with it’s neighbouring communities with emphasis on developing projects for trade and industry as well as culture and tourism. Situated by the Oslo Fjord, the town is surrounded by some 700 islands and skerries and a beautiful country side.

Welcome to historical sightseeing, to the Castle Rock, to the Oseberg mound, to cultural events, shopping, golf, sailing, horse trotting, fishing and and archipelago excursions. Welcome also to our cruise port and a memorable Medievalfestival in June.

The worldknown Oseberg vikingship, dating from 834, was excavated in Tønsberg in 1904. During the Middle Ages, Tønsberg was a centre of power for Royalty and Church as well as a Hansatown, and "Castrum Tunsbergis" on the Castle Rock was Norway’s first important fortification.

We can offer 250 km of the best cycle paths in the country and lots of fine coastal trails along the Oslo Fjord or through relaxing wood land

NORWAY'S FIRST CITY – THE VIKING SETTLEMENT OF KAUPANG – IS IN LARVIK

About 1200 years ago – 300 years before the city of Trondheim was founded – some 400- 600 people lived in an organized townlike society at Kaupang.

Excavations in recent years have yielded a great many significant finds, which are now being studied. Larvik Museum has more information and exhibits.

THE POLAR VESSEL "FRAM" – BUILT BY COLIN ARCHER IN LARVIK
The boat builder and designer Colin Archer lived at Tollerodden in Larvik. Here Frithjof Nansen's polar vessel "Fram" was built, and many other famous working and pleasure craft first saw the light of day. The "Colin Archer Days" are an annual event with boat parades, regattas, speeches and historic exhibitions at his home.
