Gudvangen Fjordtell is the ideal place to begin a tour of the Sogn area’s many attractions. It is the starting point for ferries that provide fjord tours as well as transportation to the places of interest for which Sogn is famous. You might wish to take the ferry up the Nærøyfjord, to Aurland and Flåm. Once in Flåm, you can take the Flåmline train (one of the world’s most special railroads). This journey along with the Nærøyfjord ferrytrip and, visit to Gudvangen, completes the «Norway-in-a-Nutshell» tour. Alternately, you can take a ferry up the Nærøyfjord to Manhillar (Kaupanger/Sogndal). Here you can visit the Heiberg collection - an outdoor folk park with old farms and houses and animals. Yet another ferry destination is Lærdal, with very charming old buildings the Salmoncenter.

A short drive from Lærdal you also find the beautiful Borgund stave church. If you wish to explore the Gudvangen valley, we recommend a trip to Stalheimskleivene. This breathtaking vista spot is reached by an extraordinary, narrow zig-zag road which offers a new and dramatic view around every curve. You can proceed to the Vik mountain area, but be sure to bring a sweater along as snow is not unusual even in the summertime due to the altitude. In Vik you can visit Hopperstad stave church.

But whatever you do, remember to enjoy the most beautiful attraction of them all: Gudvangen and the Nærøyfjord. People come from all over the world, because it has everything they expect in a Norwegian holiday - nature at its most spectacular, along with excellent opportunities for fishing, hiking and photography.

Careful planning, attention to details, and care in execution are evident in every aspect of the Fjordtell.

The Fjordtell has been completely designed and constructed by local artists, from the bedroom furniture to the free-standing fireplace and dramatic wrought-iron stairway in the lodge. It has been built in two parts to accommodate those passing through the area as well as those who wish to come for a peaceful holiday.

The Lodge is both majestic and functional. An air of grace and light pervades the building. Beneath the lofty ceiling one finds everything for the traveller’s comfort : cafeteria, restaurant, bar, tourist information, gift shop, money exchange, telephone/ fax/ copy service.

The Fjordtell’s 12 Viking-style hotel rooms are located in the guest hall, which, like the Lodge, blends harmoniously into the environment. Every room has private entrance, and the decor, alive with Viking motifs, blends with the mountain scenery visible through the skylight. (Very suitable for wheel-chairs, roomy and no stairs). Apx.100 meters from the Lodge we also have 9 mini apartments with equipped kitchen and roomy balcony for those who like more privacy. Recommended for longer stays and families with smaller kids.

Inside these White Caves we give you a tour through Trolls and Mystery, through the deepest caves and then to the dawn of light and a beautiful sunset, before entering the big hall, where you can rest on reindeer skins, enjoy a little snack and visit the very special CaveBar. All to the sound of running and dripping water along with Grieg’s fantastic music and a delicate light show from the deepest blue to the brightest orange, coming and going, reflecting on the many small ponds. Here you find, second after the moon, the world’s largest deposit of Anorthositt, a type of marble, which contains both gold and aluminium.
