Western Norway » Hotel Mundal

Hotel Mundal is a part of Mountainfjord and features a library cum billiard room, and several comfortable sitting rooms. The fireplace and walls are hand painted by the artist Eiler Prytz who was a frequent visitor to the hotel during the first half of the 1900’s. There is a music-room with a piano, and a newly renovated café and bar. Much of the hotel interior is impressively preserved in its 1891 condition.

The first visitors to the fjord and Hotel Mundal were explorers and artists who were searching for unspoiled and impressive landscapes in the last part of the 1800’s. After the war tourism became available to a much broader range of the public, but we are still visited by artists, adventurers and people who have crossed the glaciers, and the occasional Queen!

The Jostedals glacier is the largest in Europe, and Jotunheimen is the location of the tallest mountains in Norway; both destinations are easily accessible from Fjærland. Here you also find the Norwegian book town and the Norwegian Glacier Museum designed by the renowned Sverre Fehn.

Hotel Mundal can accommodate up to 60 guests in 24 double and 10 single rooms at a range of prices. No two rooms are alike – while all have fully modern facilities, they each have their own character.
