Sokndal, the southernmost municipality in Rogaland county, is situated on the coast between Stavanger and Kristiansand. Sokndal is the first Nordic member of the international "Cittaslow" movement, a group of towns and cities committed to improving the quality of life of their citizens and creating a distinctive identity for their areas. Sokndal likes to think of its visitors as guests rather than "tourists".
Among the many attractions of Sokndal:
-
Sogndalstrand - Protected area of 18th- and 19th-century wooden buildings featuring the "Culture Hotel", a group of seven restored 19th-century buildings now serving as a restaurant, a pub in the former jail, course and conference centres, etc. Other facilities and activities include galleries, fisheries museum, open-air amphitheatre, and villsau (an ancient Norwegian sheep breed) sea-rafting, golf course... and more. Sogndalstrand is one of the most popular destinations in Rogaland.

Jøssingfjord - famous as the setting for the "Altmark Incident" during World War II.
